A DJ friend of mine recently had a Michael Buble-sized quandry: Should he play the single "It's a Beautiful Day" at a wedding reception? Young Blue Eyes was on the bride's play list -- although not that song in particular -- but my friend was faced with the timeless question about whether lyrics trump the feel-good, popular nature of the song itself.
The song is a great pop vocal, and sounds like it'd be perfect with its sunny melody and Buble's croon. But upon listening to the words, you learn it's actually a break-up song. The reason he's singing that it's a beautiful is because "you're the one that got away." Should a DJ play this song -- or any similar song -- that is about the ending of a relationship when the occasion is about love and marriage?
